• "Experimental Gritty Folk from North American roots, South American instruments.... and a whole world of influences."

    EXPERIMENTO is my really fun project. It's experimental folk with twists of rock, grit and world music. An assembly of amazing players throw out music driven and shaped through each members "why they were chosen" skill set. We all have extensive musical and travel history, stories and connections. What started as a one day jam became a "We've got to do this" project.


    Led by the very distinctive sound of Kate's 10 string charango and vocals..... driven by a rock solid melodic rhythm section being Doug De Jong and Michael Turner, Doug delivers strong guitar and bass lines while Michael provides organic handmade percussion beds. Kate Hathaway + Experimento brings together styles gathered around the world and blended to create songs that feel both intimate and expansive.

  • The Story

    From the American Midwest, Kate Hathaway grew up amongst Friday night hootenanny's, later grew to love Chicago's incredible Indie rock scene, and then discovered the 10 string Andean Charango in a world music elective class at college. This led to ten South American Tours. Kate has now moved to Australia after meeting her musician husband when she was living in Nashville, Tennessee. In Australia, they have connected with the extensively travelled Doug De Jong. A wild and memorable guitar player with seemingly endless enthusiasm and energy. With Doug, the two became a three piece of remarkable diversity and ability.

    It's their own sound that can only come from the collective machine of each members contribution.
